Real-World Grading — The Complete System
The full decision system plus the complete DaVinci Resolve PowerGrade.
Real-World Grading — The Complete System
This system was not created as a product.
It emerged from years of grading real projects under changing light and unpredictable conditions.
This PowerGrade was designed as a modular color grading system rather than a simple LUT.
Most grading tools assume control.
Controlled light.
Repeatable conditions.
Perfect footage.
Real-world filmmaking rarely offers any of that.
Real-World Grading is a decision-based system designed for filmmakers working in changing weather, uncontrolled environments and long-form projects.
In these situations, consistency matters more than perfection.
This is not a preset.
It is not a one-click look.
It is a structured way of working calmly under unpredictable conditions.
At a glance
• modular PowerGrade system for DaVinci Resolve
• designed for outdoor and documentary-style filmmaking
• built for changing light and long-form projects
• includes Look Selector, Decision Maps and workflow guides
The System
The grading structure described here is the same system used for the films published on this site.
Rather than relying on presets or fixed looks, the workflow is built as a structured grading system.
Each stage of the node structure performs a specific task, separating technical preparation from the cinematic look.
This allows the grading process to stay stable even when working with long fishing sessions, changing weather conditions and shifting light.
The complete structure is available as a PowerGrade package, allowing the same workflow to be used in your own projects.
Camera Compatibility
The system was originally developed around Sony cameras, but it is not limited to a single camera ecosystem.
Using the built-in Camera Selector, footage recorded in different log profiles can be converted to a Rec.709 base inside the grading structure.
White balance and image balancing are already handled before the conversion stage, allowing the system to maintain stable color behaviour across different camera sources.
This means the workflow can also be used with cameras from manufacturers such as:
Canon
Panasonic
Fujifilm
Nikon
Blackmagic
Once converted, the footage continues through the same cinematic grading structure used for the films on this site.
In practice, any camera capable of recording log or flat profiles can be integrated into the workflow through the Camera Selector.
What the System Includes
The grading system is available as a PowerGrade package that contains the full grading structure used for the films on this site.

Cinematic Fishing PowerGrade
Camera Selector system
GoPro Match LUT
LUT Placeholder for custom looks
workflow guides
Optional add-on:
DJI Match LUT for drone footageWhat This Product Is
The package also includes written guides explaining:
how to integrate other camera systems
how to use the LUT placeholder to build additional lookshow
how the decision framework works in practice
Basic Workflow
1 Apply the PowerGrade
2 Select the camera profile in the Camera Selector
3 Balance white balance and exposure
4 Continue with the cinematic grade
This structured workflow allows footage from different cameras and lighting conditions to be graded consistently.
What This Product Is
Real-World Grading is a complete grading system, consisting of:
a structured PowerGrade for DaVinci Resolve
a multi-look selector covering all seasons
a written decision framework explaining when and why to use each look
It was developed for real projects — not for demonstrations.
What This Product Is Not
This product is not:
a LUT pack
a cinematic effect
a beginner tutorial
a YouTube companion
It does not promise dramatic results.
It prioritizes stability, coherence and long-term consistency.
The Core Idea
Consistency comes from decisions, not adjustments.
Instead of grading every shot individually, this system separates the process into three fixed layers:
Technical foundation
Look decision
Constant finish
Once the foundation is set, only the decision changes — not the structure.
Included Looks (Look Selector)
The PowerGrade includes a structured Look Selector with the following looks:
Base / Neutral
Revenant – cold light, natural contrast
Patagonia – muted greens, documentary tone
Overcast / Rain – low contrast, restrained color
Nordic Fall – controlled warmth, seasonal color
Nordic Winter – luminance-driven, near-monochrome
Each look is isolated, independent and designed to be activated one at a time.
Decision Maps (Written System)
The included PDF explains the system through Decision Maps.
Each map answers a single question:
Given these conditions — which look should be used, and what should not be touched?
Maps cover situations such as:
clear light
overcast conditions
rain and wet environments
forest dominance
autumn color presence
snow and ice
mixed and changing conditions
This framework turns grading from reaction into intent.
Designed for Real-World Footage
This system was developed specifically for:
outdoor filmmaking
travel and nature films
fishing and documentary work
long-form projects
unpredictable light and weather
8-bit footage
Color is controlled primarily through luminance behavior, not saturation pushes — reducing banding, artifacts and instability.
Supported Tools
• DaVinci Resolve (PowerGrade)
Designed around Sony workflows
Compatible with GoPro footage
Other cameras can be integrated through the Camera Selector.
No plugins required.
